Hand-Crafted Page Imitation – The Detail That Makes the Difference
This is not just a rectangular granite slab. The edges of our memorial book are hand-cut and ground to faithfully resemble the pages of a real book. Each "page" has a subtle, visible texture — a detail that immediately draws the eye and speaks to the quality of workmanship.
🛠️ How to Install the Memorial Book
- Prepare the surface: Clean and dry the gravestone surface — remove dust, moss and any old adhesive.
- Silicone + spacer tape: Apply stone silicone at 4 corners and in the centre. Place thin spacer tape between the silicone points to allow moisture to escape and prevent staining of the polished surface.
- Placement: Press the book firmly against the surface, applying even pressure for 60 seconds. Check with a spirit level.
- Curing time: Silicone cures fully after 24 hours. Do not move or load the book during this time.
- Maintenance: Wipe with a soft damp cloth once a season. Avoid acids, bleach or abrasive cleaners.
Is brown granite as durable as black granite?
Yes. Both granite types have very similar physical properties — fully frost-resistant, acid-resistant, and UV-stable. Brown granite is actually less prone to visible staining and moss than black, as its colour naturally conceals minor soiling. The only difference is aesthetic — which colour suits your memorial better.
What inscription colours look best on brown granite?
We recommend gold lettering — it harmonises beautifully with the warm tones of brown granite and gives the book a noble, elegant finish. Light silver is also an excellent option. We advise against white paint, which can appear too stark against the brown background.
Can a ceramic photograph be added?
Yes. The 40×30 cm format comfortably accommodates a ceramic photo (e.g. 10×15 cm or 13×18 cm) or a diamond-etched portrait on one "page", with the name, dates and inscription on the other. Please specify your preference when ordering.
Can the book be mounted at an angle?
Yes. Standard installation is flat on the gravestone. On request, we can also produce a granite wedge from the same brown granite to tilt the front of the book at approximately 10–15° — making inscriptions easier to read and improving rainwater run-off. The wedge is priced individually — please contact us.
How long does production take?
Standard production time is 10–14 working days from approval of the inscription design. We send a digital proof for your approval before engraving — so you can be confident the result will be exactly as you envisioned. Delivery by courier throughout Europe, packed with foam protection.
Does granite need sealing?
Brown granite is naturally very resistant and does not require sealing in typical memorial conditions. Optionally, once every few years, you can apply a natural stone impregnator (e.g. Lithofin, Akemi) — this will keep the surface cleaner for longer. It is not essential for the stone or engraving to remain durable.
