Sandblasted Grave Letter — Precision and Elegance

Sandblasted letters for gravestones are the most popular memorial lettering technique in Poland. Each letter and digit is produced using a vinyl stencil precisely positioned on the stone, through which a stream of abrasive is directed under high pressure. The result is uniform, deeply carved letters with perfectly even edges — legible for decades without maintenance.

Sandblasting allows inscriptions to be created in any lettering style — from classic upright and serif, through italic and gothic, to modern sans-serif. Letters can also be painted to increase contrast and legibility from a greater distance.

When to Choose Sandblasting vs Hand Chiseling

Sandblasting is faster and more affordable than hand chiseling (12 PLN vs 18 PLN per letter) and is ideal for standard monuments in modern polished granite. Hand chiseling is recommended for restorations of historic graves or when a deeper letter profile and the handmade character of the craft are important to you.

  • Choose sandblasting — new polished granite monument, large number of letters, shorter lead time
  • Choose chiseling — historic grave, sandstone/marble, handmade character matters

Who Are Sandblasted Letters Ideal For

Sandblasted letters are the choice for families looking for a reliable, durable and cost-effective solution. The technique works well for both new monuments and for adding further dates or names to an existing slab. Thanks to the wide range of lettering styles, the inscription can be perfectly matched to the character of the headstone.

❓ How much does a full grave inscription cost?

A typical inscription (first name, surname, dates — approx. 25–35 characters) costs 300–420 PLN at 12 PLN per letter. Spaces and punctuation marks are usually not counted. We send an exact quote once we know the inscription text and letter size.

❓ Do sandblasted letters need to be painted?

Painting is not mandatory — a sandblasted letter is visible thanks to the textural contrast between the matt recessed area and the polished granite surface. Gold or silver paint increases legibility from a distance and is standard on black granite. Oil paint requires refreshing every 8–15 years.

❓ How long does production take?

Standard lead time is 5–10 working days from design approval. Before production we send you a visualisation with your chosen lettering style — you can be sure the inscription will be exactly as you want it.

❓ Can you add letters to an existing headstone?

Yes — adding another person's name or completing a date directly at the cemetery is our speciality. A prior site visit is needed to match the lettering style and size to the existing inscription. Contact us to arrange a date and travel quote.

❓ Does sandblasting damage the granite surface?

No — sandblasting only removes the top layer of granite within the stencil area. The rest of the polished surface is protected by film and remains untouched. Granite is so hard that sandblasting does not affect its structure outside the letter area.
