Personalised Granite Papyrus Scroll — Minimalist Memorial with Inscription
The personalised granite papyrus scroll is a classic, elegant gravestone element in the form of a scroll with carved edges imitating rolled parchment. Unlike the photo papyrus (#2502), this version focuses purely on the power of words — a name, dates, an epitaph, or a chosen quote — without an additional portrait.
Black Granite Mirror Black with mirror polish is one of the most distinguished materials in memorial stonemasonry. The deep, uniform black makes gold or silver inscriptions stand out with maximum contrast and elegance. The mirror polish lasts for decades without maintenance — granite is resistant to frost, UV, and moisture.
The edges of the papyrus are carved in the characteristic parchment-roll shape — from the front, two granite cylinders are visible, giving the element a three-dimensional, monumental character. Inscriptions made by deep sandblasting (2–3 mm) are permanently filled with UV- and frost-resistant gold or silver stone enamel.
Personalisation Options — What to Inscribe
The inscription papyrus is a versatile form that accommodates a variety of content. Typical layouts we produce:
- Name + dates — classic minimalist layout. Works as a supplement to an existing gravestone or as a standalone element by an urn.
- Name + epitaph + dates — full inscription with a short farewell sentence (2–3 lines). The most popular variant.
- Symbol + inscription — cross, Star of David, rosary, floral motif, or other denominational / personal symbol combined with text.
- Poem or quote — for those who wish to include a longer text — several verses. The 45×35 cm size is recommended.
If you want to combine an inscription with a photo or portrait, see the photo papyrus from 1000 PLN.

🛠️ How to Install the Inscription Papyrus — Step by Step
- Order and approve design — provide the inscription text (name, dates, epitaph), preferred font, and size. Within 2–3 working days you will receive a design proof for approval. Free amendments until approved.
- Pay deposit and wait for production — after design approval we take a 50% deposit. Production takes 10–14 working days. Shipped by courier.
- Prepare the gravestone surface — clean and degrease the mounting area (min. 45×35 cm for 40×30 variant). Remove moss, dust, and old adhesive residue.
- Apply stone silicone and spacer tape — lay 3–5 mm spacer tape around the papyrus base perimeter. Apply stone-grade silicone (not construction silicone) in a zigzag pattern on the base. Two people are required due to the ~18 kg weight. Press firmly and leave 24–48 hours to cure.
- Optional: granite wedge stand — for a 15–20° tilt, use the granite wedge stand. Improves aesthetics and makes the inscription easier to read — the ideal complement to the papyrus.
Who Is the Inscription Papyrus For?
This product is ideal for those who value minimalist elegance and the power of words. Particularly suited when:
- You want an elegant but affordable memorial element — from 600 PLN, significantly less than the photo version.
- You want to include an extended epitaph, poem, or quote — without a photo, with emphasis on the text.
- You prefer minimalist aesthetics — black granite with inscription, no additional graphic elements.
- You are looking for a dignified memorial element for someone whose photo you do not have or do not wish to display.
- You want to decorate an existing gravestone without costly reconstruction — the papyrus can be glued to any flat surface.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the inscription papyrus (#139) and the photo papyrus (#2502)?
Papyrus #139 (this product) contains only an inscription — name, dates, epitaph, optionally a symbol or decorative motif. No photo, with emphasis on the power of the word and minimalist aesthetics. Price from 600 PLN.
Papyrus #2502 includes a portrait (diamond engraving, photo crystal, or memorial porcelain) combined with an inscription. More expensive (from 1000 PLN) and more premium — for families who want to display an image of their loved one.
Both papyruses are made of black granite and look identical in form — they differ only in content and price.
How many characters / lines fit on a 40×30 cm papyrus?
The 40×30 cm papyrus comfortably fits approximately 4–6 lines of text, depending on letter length and font style. Typical layout: name (1–2 lines) + dates (1 line) + short epitaph (1–2 lines). For longer texts (poem, quote) we recommend the 45×35 cm variant. The design proof will show the layout before production.
What paint / enamel is used for the inscription?
Inscriptions are filled with stone enamel in gold or silver. The enamel is UV-resistant (does not fade), frost-resistant (does not crack at temperatures down to -30°C), and moisture-resistant. It is the same paint used on memorial plaques — proven in Central European climate conditions for decades.
Can I choose the font and inscription layout?
Yes. We offer a range of fonts — from classic serif to modern sans-serif and calligraphic styles. The layout (centred, left-aligned, mixed) is agreed during the design proof stage. All amendments before approval are free of charge.
How long does production take?
Production takes 10–14 working days from design approval and deposit payment. Add 2–3 days for courier delivery. During peak season (May–August) the lead time may extend to 3 weeks — order in advance.
Is the inscription durable over the years?
Yes. Inscriptions made by deep sandblasting (2–3 mm recesses in granite) are durable regardless of weather conditions. Granite is incomparably more resistant than marble or sandstone. The stone enamel retains its colour for many years; after a decade or more it can be retouched without touching the inscription itself.
Can I order a papyrus without any inscription — as a purely decorative element?
Yes, a papyrus without inscription can be ordered as a decorative element. In that case we engrave a decorative motif (e.g. olive branch, cross, floral pattern) in the granite. Contact us to discuss the options.
Can I order a papyrus with both inscription AND photo?
Yes — that is exactly what the photo papyrus offers: photo papyrus #2502. It includes both a portrait (diamond engraving, photo crystal, or porcelain) and an inscription. Price from 1000 PLN.
Can the papyrus be self-installed?
Yes, self-installation is possible, but two people are needed due to the ~18 kg weight. Use stone silicone (not construction silicone) and 3–5 mm spacer tape. Clean and degrease the surface. Curing time: 24–48 hours. Optionally use the granite wedge stand for a 15–20° tilt.
