To ensure this moment is not forgotten, more and more schools are choosing to place a granite commemorative plaque near the tree, bearing the date, class and a short message.
What is the Oak of Remembrance?
Planting memorial oaks has a long history in Poland — from initiatives to honour soldiers fallen in wars to school farewell ceremonies for graduating and eighth-grade classes. As a species, the oak lives for hundreds of years — the ideal symbol of continuity.
